After a short walk one block north, guests will board the world's last operating cable car line, down to Union Square . The square, once a popular site of support rallies for the Union Army during the Civil War, still remains a cosmopolitan gathering place as the central shopping and theatre district in the City. Guests will be treated to a private trunk shopping excursion of high end apparel and accessories under the stunning glass ceiling in the glorious Neiman Marcus department store. Or guests may view one of the many galleries for contemporary, emerging and Bay Area artists in private showing with commentary by the artists. Whisked away by luxury transportation, the guests will be taken to what legendary columnist Herb Caen described as, “a famous city's most famous landmark.” The Ferry Building , located at the water's edge, has been the entrance point into the City since 1898. Throughout the years, gold miners, immigrants, commuters and tourists have utilized this primary gateway to the City. Currently the Ferry Building houses The Marketplace, a vibrant gathering of local farmers, artisan producers, and independently owned gourmet businesses that celebrate local culture to serve the discerning consumer. Guests will forage among the local, seasonal and sustainable epicurean treasures for an appetizer before lunch at a modern Vietnamese restaurant. The food, relaxed atmosphere, Riesling-driven wine list, full bar and hard-to-find Chinese teas all speak to the restaurant's originality and commitment to quality.
Next, guests will relax with a beautiful glass of wine while people watching in the historic Italian district of North Beach . Guests can view St. Peter and Paul's, the towered neo-Gothic cathedral, in Washington Park . The church that originally served a parish of Italian fisherman was the site of the famous photo of Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe after their City Hall wedding. As the sun begins to fade, guests will be taken up to Coit Tower for breathtaking views of the city at sunset before their evening dinner reservation at one of San Francisco's many five star restaurants, like Gary Danko, Michael Mina or Aqua. The service, cuisine and wines at these restaurants provide the ultimate ending to an unforgettable day in the City by the Bay.
